And So to Sew!

This week we're into the quarter final of this year's Great British Sewing Bee - already!  What with velvet trousers and anoraks last week, it's difficult to imagine what the judges will come up with next.  I doubt any of the challenges will be as effortlessly stylish as the summer dresses on the cover of this great publication from the collections of the Museum of Domestic Design and Architecture.

Don't you just love the jaunty typography?  Not to mention the clever way that the background suggests a piece of paper dress pattern?  MoDA's collections include a good number of booklets, magazines and manuals relating to making things at home; from dressmaking to knitting, and from crochet to woodwork.  If you are interested take a look at our website, or get in touch to make an appointment to see more for yourself.

Fancy a MoDA design on a mug, phone cover or canvas? No problem!

MoDA's Business Manager, Claire Isherwood, is very excited to announce that MoDA images are now available on a variety of products from mugs and t-shirts to mobile phone covers and canvas prints. "It is very rewarding to at last see MoDA images on a range of products. Over the years I have received numerous requests from people wanting to buy gifts with images from our collections and now you finally can."

This has been made possible by teaming up with the Mary Evan’s Picture Library, who provides this service through their sister site Prints OnlineIndividuals can choose their preferred design online and purchase photographic prints, canvas prints and other merchandise including mugs, key rings and mouse mats with MoDA images as illustrated below.

MoDA also has a collection of images on the Library's main site. You can view MoDA’s collection here.

The Mary Evans Picture Library licences images for commercial use in books, newspapers, magazines, adverts, web sites and all manner of other media. The images cover a broad range of topics and subject areas, of mainly historical pictures.  The Mary Evans Picture Library will allow our images to be available to a much wider audience and also gain income to support the Museum's core activities. MoDA is often contacted to supply images for books and magazines and will continue to assist those with specific enquiries. Please contact Claire Isherwood c.isherwood@mdx.ac.uk for more information.

We hope to add more images to the Mary Evan's selection over the next year. The gifts are not available from MoDA directly so please order through the Prints Online website.
Happy Shopping!
